Immigration officials Thursday stopped fugitive Warris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh’s wife, Kirandeep Kaur, at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar while she was trying to fly to England. Kirandeep Kaur is a British citizen.

A lookout notice had been issued against her. According to sources, she had a visa for a limited period to stay in India and it was about to expire.

She got married to Amritpal Singh in February this year and was going to England for the first time after that.

The police said they are reaching the Amritsar airport for further proceedings.

Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal Singh has been on the run since March 18 after a police crackdown against him and the members of his Waris Punjab De outfit. On March 18, he escaped the police in the Jalandhar district by switching vehicles and changing appearances but returned to Punjab on March 28.

Same-sex marriage SC hearing LIVE updates: The Supreme Court on Thursday will enter into day 3 of its hearing on a bunch of at least 15 petitions regarding the demand for marriage equality in India.

Wednesday's hearing began with Centre's affidavit to the Supreme Court seeking to admit all the states as parties in the matter, stating that the case requires an assessment of state rules, and customs of different sections of society.

Centre has raised preliminary objection to the hearing and said the parliament is the only constitutionally permissible forum to decide on creation of a new social relationship.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the petitioners, stated the affidavit “irrelevant”. Rohatgi, defending the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, argued that the State's recognition of union of homosexual couple will reduce the stigma around homosexuality and gave references of several case laws where marriage equality was upheld in other countries.
